Unreal Engine 4.1 Update Adds PS4 & Project Morpheus Support

With the new Unreal Engine 4.1 update, Epic has added console support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at no additional cost, making Unreal Engine 4 “the only commercially available engine that allows developers to deploy games across video game consoles, PC, Mac, SteamOS, mobile and web, as well as for VR experiences on the Oculus Rift and Sony’s Project Morpheus.”

Here’s the important update notes for PS4 and Xbox One support in Unreal Engine 4.1:

  • Full support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One!
  • Engine source for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is available to subscribers who are registered developers with Microsoft or Sony, respectively.
  • For now, deploying projects to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One requires compiling source from GitHub using a Windows computer.

The engine’s Marketplace will now see the Elemental demo (see below), with the free Epic sample project, Shooter Game, undergoing certification on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
