PS4 Firmware Update 1.74 Available Now

It turns out “very soon” for the next PS4 firmware update was extremely accurate, as version 1.74 went live last night, but as with 1.72, this is just another stability update, which you can read about in the singular note below:

  • System software stability during use of some features has been improved.

Although Sony doesn’t specifically come out and say this update is mandatory, they did note: “Depending on the software title, you may not be able to play without first updating the PS4 system software.”

For those of you who need to download the PS4 update to a USB drive, you’ll need at least 320MB of free space (the actual update is 184MB) and you can find download links by heading over to the UK and US PlayStation sites.

As always with these vague firmware updates, if you notice anything has changed, please let everyone know in the comments below.
