Activision CEO Says Destiny’s Delay Earlier Was the “Right Decision”

With Destiny’s launch right around the corner and confirmation that the game has gone gold, Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg has said that delaying the game’s release earlier was the right thing to do at the time. Speaking to Examiner, Hirshberg said:

It was the right decision to delay it because you never get a second chance to launch [a new game] and make that first impression. Obviously we wanted to prioritize getting the game right and setup for the 10 year vision that we have for Destiny.

He also said that he’s not worried about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare releasing just two months after Destiny. He said that although both games fall under the first-person action genre, they still vary greatly in terms of style and approach.

One is a gritty, somewhat realistic, military shooter, and the other one is a far-future fantasy with capes and aliens and takes place on other planets. So yes, they both have the first-person point of view in common, but I think they’ll actually attract some different types of fans.

Do you think Destiny’s launch in September will impact Advanced Warfare sales?
