After launching on October 14, Take-Two revealed in their financial earnings call yesterday that Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel is “off to a strong start, demonstrating that there’s still a vibrant market for must-have prior-gen titles.”

Later in the call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was asked to compare The Pre-Sequel’s sales to Borderlands 2’s, and in the process he may have teased a potential new-gen release for The Pre-Sequel:

In terms of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, naturally it’s available only for what is now prior-gen. It’s not available currently for next-gen. We’re very happy with the initial results. It remains to be seen. It’s early days yet but you wouldn’t want to comp it to the last Borderlands. So I don’t think that would be an appropriate comp right now.

This news follows earlier comments by Gearbox President Randy Pitchford who said, “It looks like Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel had an incredible launch with a strong opening week. Looks like someone lost a bet!”

Pitchford also revealed that Athena is the most popular character.

The Pre-Sequel isn’t the only successful launch for Take-Two in October, with NBA 2K15 enjoying “the strongest launch in the history of the series, with both record first week sell-in and sell-through across all platforms.”
