Despite not actually revealing any hard sales figures for the game, Activision Blizzard announced today that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare enjoyed the biggest entertainment launch of 2014, outperforming all other video games, movies, music, and books this year.

Again, specific figures weren’t given, but Advanced Warfare also became the highest-selling digital launch in console history, according to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, and Activision estimates. As well, AW is outperforming the launch week of Call of Duty: Ghosts (which wasn’t available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One at the time), with Season Pass sales up also.

In all, the Call of Duty franchise has achieved over $10 billion in sales since its creation in 2003, with sales approaching 189 million as of July 2014.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick talked about the series:

Since Activision created the Call of Duty franchise in 2003, franchise revenues have exceeded $10 billion in sales worldwide, far exceeding box office receipts for such household movie franchises as Hunger Games, Transformers, Iron Man and Avengers, combined. Advanced Warfare is the biggest entertainment launch of 2014 in terms of revenue, surpassing all movie, music and book launches this year.

Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg added:

We poured our hearts into making Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare an epic ride, and we are pleased with the performance. Sales and engagement are up through the first week compared to last year. Season Pass sales are up, as well. The game has been very positively reviewed and the response from fans has been tremendous. We believe Advanced Warfare will be the most successful game of the year and we thank our fans for making it the biggest entertainment launch of the year.

When it comes to Advanced Warfare, there were over 370 million online matches played during the first week, with people leveling up over 200 million times.
