Japanese Sales Chart: PS4 Sales Explode to 68,000, Still Can’t Beat 3DS

Moving more units than it did in its second week on the market in Japan, the PlayStation 4 sold 68,000 systems last week, but it still wasn’t enough to topple the New 3DS XL, which finished at 83,000.

The main reason for the big PS4 sales boost is due to the Dragon Quest Heroes Metal Slime Limited Edition PlayStation 4 Bundle (the game isn’t out until February), with the release of Grand Theft Auto V also helping out by debuting to over 80,000 copies sold.

Overall though, the week belonged to the 3DS, with Yokai Watch 2: Shinuchi releasing to over 1.24 million in sales, and Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire continuing to dominate with another 152,000 sold. Within the next few days, expect Pokemon to cross 2 million sold in Japan since launch.
