PSN Back Online, Sony Issues Statement for Those Experiencing Issues

Following the ruckus caused by DDoS attacks on the PlayStation Network over Christmas, we can confirm that the network is largely back online. However, work isn’t completed yet and users may experience issues connecting to some network services. A message on the PlayStation Support page states:

PS4, PS3 and VITA are presently online. Intermittency may be experienced when accessing some network services. We will update you with any changes that may occur with the status of the network. If you would like to receive a notice when PSN is fully restored, be sure to follow the official PlayStation Twitter account and our support Twitter account, @AskPlayStation.

Over on the PlayStation blog, the Vice President of SCEA Consumer Experience, Catherine Jensen, released an official statement regarding the matter.

PlayStation Network is back online. As you probably know, PlayStation Network and some other gaming services were attacked over the holidays with artificially high levels of traffic designed to disrupt connectivity and online gameplay. This may have prevented your access to the network and its services over the last few days.

Some people seem to have assumed that the lack of connectivity was due to an issue with their consoles. Prior to the message above, Jensen asked those who received a new console over Christmas to sit tight.

If you received a PlayStation console over the holidays and have been unable to log onto the network, know that this problem is temporary and is not caused by your game console. We’ll continue to keep you posted on Twitter at @AskPlayStation and we’ll update this post once the problems subside.

Thanks again for your patience.

Are any of our readers still experiencing issues? Let us know.
