Troy Baker Talks About Metal Gear Solid V Voice Work, Says Kojima Thought He Was “Right” for Ocelot

During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA), video game voice actor vet Troy Baker answered a few fan questions regarding his role as Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

In the Q&A, Baker calls Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima “mindboggling,” and how the famed game director saw him as the “right” person for the role.

Question: I’m a huge fan of yours as well as the MGS series. How is your experience doing the voice of Ocelot? Did you do the mocap of him gun spinning? You’re pretty good.

Troy Baker: It was split between an actor in Japan doing the body, and me doing the voice and the face. I LOVED saying that line.

Question: I just wanted to ask, how did you become the new voice actor for Ocelot in MGS5. Did Kojima come to you, or did you audition for it?

Troy Baker: Chris Zimmerman (who’s the performance director) approached me about it, but I had to audition just like everyone else, and thankfully Kojima thought I was right for the role.

Question: How is it working with Kojima-san?

Troy Baker: MINDBOGGLING. He’s an absolute genius.

Question: Can you tell us a bit about Ocelot’s personality in The Phantom Pain?

Troy Baker: Not without spoiling the game. But it’s definitely an ocelot you will recognize.

You can read up on the Reddit thread to see what Baker had to say working with Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey and a lot more.

What’s your take on Baker playing as Ocelot? Do you think he’s a good fit for the franchise?
