Allowing you to sign up on their website, the developers of PlanetSide 2 have confirmed that the PlayStation 4 closed beta is set to begin on January 20 in North America. As the official FAQ puts it, “Currently PlanetSide 2 on the PS4 will only be available in English in North America, UK, AU, and NZ territories. We’re exploring more countries and languages for launch at a later date.”

At the beginning of the beta, a few thousand players will be invited to play, with waves of players being added through the closed beta period. Hopefully you signed up for the beta a while back because “players will be invited in chronological order of when they signed up.”

If you do play in the beta, be sure to share your feedback with the developers:

We’ll be using this beta period to test our servers, performance, and various other aspects of the game, and we also want you to share constructive feedback on PlanetSide 2. How does the game look and feel? Is navigating through the menus intuitive and utilizing DualShock 4 in the best way? All players in the Closed Beta will have access to our special Beta forums, which will be the primary location for development interaction and feedback. We want the massive battles to make your heart pound and adrenaline pump, so share your thoughts with us.

Also, don’t expect many differences between the PC and PS4 versions of PlanetSide 2:

There will not be any significant changes to the core gameplay mechanics and the PS4 version of PlanetSide 2 will still retain all the features that make the game unique. The biggest difference players will see will be in the user interface, which will be customized to work seamlessly with a console controller. These differences will not affect the core gameplay mechanics. Lastly, all content currently available on the PC version may not be immediately available on the PS4 version.

The full version of PlanetSide 2 will be released on PS4 later this year, and it won’t require PlayStation Plus to play.
