Dying Light Runs at a Locked 30fps on PS4 & Xbox One, is Native 1080p

Earlier this week, it was revealed that Dying Light was now targeting 1080p/30fps on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, despite developer Techland previously saying they would be able to achieve 60fps.

To help clarify any questions people have about the specs of Dying Light, Senior Game Producer Adrian Ciszewski went on Facebook, where he confirmed the game will run at a locked 30fps:

As you’re probably well aware, one of Dying Light’s highlight features is the Natural Movement system. It lets you swiftly traverse the vast open world by jumping between rooftops, climbing buildings, and using impressive parkour skills on the go.

In such a fast-paced game, a stable frame-rate is paramount. When you’re desperately trying to escape from a horde of pursuing Volatiles, even the smallest drop can lead to a mistimed jump and consequently your death. That’s why we made the choice to lock the frame-rate at a rock-solid 30fps on consoles, at the same time reducing the input lag to the minimum. The result is a perfectly smooth, gameplay-tailored performance.

Thanks to the locked frame-rate, Ciszewski revealed that they’ve “succeeded in delivering native 1080p graphics.”

All in all, Ciszewski says 1080p/locked 30fps is the “optimal solution for Dying Light and all its gameplay features on consoles.”

Dying Light will be released on January 27, 2015 in North America and January 30, 2015 in Europe for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC (but not PS3 or Xbox 360).
