Star Wars Battlefront Details Leak: Play as Darth Vader, Fly X-Wings, Free DLC in December

Just a couple hours before the full Star Wars Battlefront trailer goes online at 10:30am PT, ABC News has published a story on the game, confirming the release date of November 17 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Revealing some details about Battlefront, the post says it features battles of “up to 40 players portraying Rebel Alliance and Galactic Empire forces.” In addition to seeing a multiplayer match taking place on Endor, they say other locations include Hoth, Tatooine, and Sullust.

As Designer Director Niklas Fegraeus confirmed, you’ll be able to play as characters such as Boba Fett and Darth Vader, in addition to the troopers:

You can storm in as the Dark Lord himself. You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well.

The fight won’t stay on the ground either, as you’ll be able to jump into TIE Fighters, X-wings, and the Millenium Falcon, but DICE wouldn’t talk about how battles would move from the ground to the air. Other vehicles include speeder bikes, AT-STs, and AT-ATs.

As Executive Producer Patrick Bach added, “The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground.”

POTENTIAL THE FORCE AWAKENS SPOILERS AHEAD

On December 8, less than two weeks before Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens in theaters, EA will release a free downloadable level titled Battle of Jakku. This will give you a look at the battle that took place after Return of the Jedi when the New Republic confronted Imperial holdouts.

Stay tuned for more Battlefront news and details throughout the day.
