One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3’s Dressrosa Story Arc Goes Beyond the Manga

Since One Piece: Pirate Warriors 3 is following the Dressrosa story arc, which actually is still ongoing in the One Piece manga series, Bandai Namco has said that it had to move past the manga in order to complete a full plot for the upcoming game.

In an interview with Siliconera, Koei Tecmo’s General Director Hisashi Koinuma explained that the team tried to follow the manga for as long as possible, but eventually had to come up with their own original story lines to finish the game.

Yes, we came up with an original storyline for the Dressrosa arc. We came to this decision because rather than not having the Dressrosa arc in the game, we think fans would be excited to see the storyline even if parts of it were original for the game. We waited until the very end of development so the manga could go as long as it could until we needed to work on it. After that date, the story was created by the development team.

Producer Koji Nakajima, who was also part of the interview, also explained that Shanks will be in the upcoming PlayStation 4, PS3, PS Vita, and PC game when it releases in August, and since his moves are not fully detailed in the stories, the team had to create some of “his actions for our game.” Are you getting excited?
