YouTube Announces Dedicated Gaming App and Website, Twitch Responds

YouTube has announced YouTube Gaming, a dedicated app and website that’s set to be the company’s answer to Twitch. The website will host all kinds of video game content including live streams and Let’s Plays.

YouTube Gaming Product Manager, Alan Joyce, said that over 25,000 games will have their own page, “from Asteroids to Zelda.” Additionally, there will be a wide range of channels run by game publishers and YouTube creators. “You can search with confidence, knowing that typing ‘call’ will show you Call of Duty and not ‘Call Me Maybe,'” Joyce said.

When YouTube announced the service on Twitter, Twitch responded by welcoming “Player 2.” A tweet from its official account stated:

.@YouTubeGaming Welcome Player 2. Add me on Google+. #kappa

It’s on!

Do you think Twitch has anything to worry about?
