Destiny: The Taken King Ghost Voice Actor Is Nolan North, Replaces Peter Dinklage

With the Ghost in Destiny taking on a bigger role in The Taken King, Bungie revealed to Game Informer that Peter Dinklage is out as the voice actor and Nolan North (Uncharted) is in going forward.

As Creative Director Luke Smith explained, Bungie re-recorded all of the original Ghost dialogue with North, as Dinklage’s voice won’t be in game. “We wanted Nolan North’s version of the Ghost to wake you up at the start of the journey at level one and follow you all the way to level forty,” he said.

“Really excited” about the role, North says, “You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable. There’s a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it.”

North continued by saying he hadn’t listened to any of the work Dinklage did for the character:

They really wanted me to put my stamp on it. They let me bring what I wanted to the role. You have to give it your own spin. For that reason, I specifically said I didn’t want to hear anything that someone else had done, so that I didn’t have some preconceived notion of what it has to be. Instead, I just gave it my stamp, and let them direct me accordingly.

Going forward, North hopes to be playing the Ghost for years, evolving the character as Destiny progresses. “In the same way that the player learns about the game and the world, maybe the Ghost grows with them,” he said.

Destiny: The Taken King launches on September 15 for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
