Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain Mother Base Coins Prices Revealed By PlayStation Store

Update:

With the September 1 PlayStation Store update in North America, it’s been revealed that MB Coins range from $0.99 for 100 Coins to $49.99 for 6,000 Coins.

“In-game currency that may be used to shorten development time for certain weapons/items or expand certain base facilities,” the description reads.

Original Story:

Thanks to some details going live early on the New Zealand PlayStation Store, the prices of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain’s Mother Base coins have been revealed.

According to screenshots from Metal-Gear.net, you can spend up to $80 on 6,000 coins (should convert to $50 – $60 USD) if you don’t want to take the time to earn them yourself in-game:

  • 100 MB Coins – $1.65
  • 550 MB Coins – $7.95
  • 1,150 MB Coins – $15.95
  • 3,500 MB Coins – $48.95
  • 6,000 MB Coins – $79.95

We still don’t know how many MB Coins you’ll need to unlock various content in the Forward Operating Base mode, but the gamescom demo of The Phantom Pain suggested these prices:

Previously, Konami Senior Producer Ken-ichiro Imaizumi said about MB Coins: “You can make money by completing missions on single campaign mode. There are other ways to make money as well.”

As well, Konami explained last week that these micro-transactions are used to purchase further Mother Base content, not the actual FOB mode itself:

To clarify, the initial FOB, which includes the FOB command platform and all sub-platforms, is not behind a Mother Base coin paywall. Maintaining other FOBs past the initial set of FOB platforms can be purchased with Mother Base coins. More information regarding the payment model for FOB will be provided closer to launch.

The Phantom Pain launches tomorrow on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
