Xbox Boss “Fully Expects” a PS4 Price Drop in the West

At Sony’s Tokyo Game Show 2015 conference, we were told that the PlayStation 4 was due to receive a price cut in Japan with effect from October 1. Later, Sony announced that the price drop will extend to other countries in Asia as well, but unfortunately, Sony hasn’t indicated any such plans for the Western markets…yet. However, many hope and believe that the console will soon be available at a discounted price in the West, and Xbox boss Phil Spencer seems very sure of it. Speaking to IGN, Spencer said that he “fully expects” the PS4 to drop in price.

I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price. When I think about the playbook they’ve used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we’ll see a price drop from them coming.

Talking about Sony’s presence at the Paris Games Week and the possibility of an announcement at the event, Spencer said that he wasn’t necessarily threatened by the idea of Sony announcing a price cut and that if it does, it might be a good thing competition-wise.

It’s great for gamers when price competition happens. We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles.

Paris Games Week 2015 takes place between October 28 and November 1. As usual, we’ll be updating our readers with all the news from the event so make sure to tune in.
