Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization Story Outline Revealed

The official website for the recently announced PlayStation 4/Vita title, Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization, has been updated with a story outline. A translation (courtesy of Siliconera and Gematsu) can be found below:

A reconstructed virtual world – one that “people” didn’t demand.

I logged in. This world feels familiar. An origin world. A “world” that isn’t the one we live in.

The year is 2024.

Sword Art Online is set in a floating castle called “Aincrad” where game over means you die in real life. When a player known as Kirito cleared the game, the virtual world collapsed.

The “SAO” incident caused a great ripple in the society.

Some time has passed since then.

The life-threatening “NerveGear” hardware was replaced by “AmuSphere” hardware, which makes the virtual reality world safe.

Research and development for new possibilities in virtual reality paved way for a new game based on Sword Art Online’s former server.

Called Sword Art: Origin or “SA:O,” this new virtual reality MMORPG brings back past memories.

Kirito receives a message: “I came back to Aincrad.”

This marks the start of a new adventure for Kirito and his friends.

Characters confirmed so far include Kirito, Asuna, and an unnamed “mysterious girl” with no expression who gazes at Kirito from a distance and leaves a message.

Bandai Namco has also released a batch of screenshots, which you can check out directly on the game’s website. And in case you’ve missed it, click here for Hollow Realization‘s initial announcement and trailer.
