On Twitter last night, PlayStation prematurely said, “Update! PS4 users can now purchase avatars through PlayStation Store. Previously purchased PS3 avatars will transfer over in the coming days.” This was then followed by a tweet that read, “Update x2! Avatars are coming to PlayStation Store on PS4 starting next week. Your PS3 avatars will still carry over.”
Sony didn’t give specific timing for the avatars, but they’ll likely go live on Tuesday with the PlayStation Store update.
Looking through the list of over 4,700 avatars available on the PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3, most range from $0.99 – $1.99, though you are able to grab a number of free ones as well.
As you may recall, the ability to purchase avatars on PS4 was included in a recent survey, where Sony also asked about friend notifications, PSN name changes, folders, filtering options in game libraries, custom backgrounds, ‘appear offline’ mode, Classics, and more.
