Metroidvania RPG Dark Flame Launches Kickstarter Campaign, Includes PS4 Stretch Goal

Dark Flame, the 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania title hatched by indie developer Warren Smith, has now launched a Kickstarter campaign with an initial target of $75,000.

Representing something of a passion project for Smith, Dark Flame blends elements of Dark Souls with the retro aesthetic of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Since its inception, the RPG has expanded to incorporate hand-crafted environments and a story, with the official Kickstarter page describing the latter as so:

You play the role of Taharial; a crusader in the midst of the Batlic Crusades. Upon discovering a mysterious onset of insanity by unknown causes among his brothers, Taharial set’s forth to purge the area of evil and persevere through the dark possessive powers before all is lost in chaos.

A playable demo is available but is currently limited to PC. However, the Kickstarter hopeful will launch across PSN and Xbox Live if it manages to raise $100k, with a port to Nintendo platforms also on the cards.

You can consult the game’s official Kickstarter page for more information regarding stretch goals and the like.
