Xing: The Land Beyond Takes You to the Afterlife on PS4 in 2016

A first-person atmospheric puzzle-adventure game that takes place in the afterlife, Xing: The Land Beyond from developer White Lotus Interactive is coming to PlayStation 4 and PC in Spring 2016, with virtual reality support planned (PlayStation VR wasn’t mentioned specifically).

Already dead as you start the game, Xing sees you trying to figure out who you are and what you must ultimately do, with developer Koriel Kruer adding:

Imagine walking up to a gravestone, reading the inscription, and then being transported through space and time to where a defining moment of that person’s life took place. The story is told through the environments you explore, the mysterious messages you encounter, and scattered poetry spoken in the voices of those long past.

In development for the last three years by three people, here’s what you need to know about Xing: The Land Beyond:

Story

You Died. Welcome to XING.

Your body may be gone, but your life has just begun. In death, you will find yourself on a journey across a series of mysterious lands, in an afterlife where they must uncover secrets as to who they are and why they are there.

In the land of XING you are crossing the threshold between life and death.

You are on a journey to earn your freedom, while freeing other spirits trapped in the in-between. Each realm you visit was once home to a spirit, which will act as a guide in telling the story of his/her life through scattered poetry. Spirits will also help you in your quest to solve puzzles, in the hopes that you will set them free when you pass through the final gate into oblivion…

Gameplay

Gameplay involves exploration, solving environment-based puzzles and gaining/using powers such as rain and snow to progress through levels.

Spiritualism, mysticism and logic come together in the land of XING, where you will traverse mountains, deserts, forests, volcanoes and more.

Xing: The Land Beyond will be playable next month at PlayStation Experience.
