CD Projekt RED Says Rivalry With Bethesda Benefits Players and Both Studios

Two of the biggest releases this year came from CD Projekt RED and Bethesda with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Fallout 4, respectively. Although different, the games have been compared across the board, with many critics and players noting that CD Projekt RED set the bar quite high for RPGs with its latest release. However, Fallout 4 has wooed people over to the point that the Polish studio “caught a cold!” Senior Technical Artist, José Teixeira, said in an interview with GameReactor:

There were a lot of ‘colds’ in the studio during the launch week for Fallout 4… I wonder why! Bethesda makes absolutely great games, no doubt about that, and everything they do serves as inspiration for us, although we hope that the opposite is also true.

Teixeira went on to say that the “rivalry” between both studios is beneficial for players and studios alike.

Here in the studio we are all major gamers, and although each one has their preferences, almost everyone loves RPGs. I think this rivalry between the two studios ultimately benefits both the players, and the studios themselves, forcing us to always do better.

With both games nominated for The Game Awards 2015, we’ll soon find out which one will take the ultimate Game of the Year prize this year. Worth noting, however, that CD Projekt RED walked away with a bunch of Golden Joysticks prior to Fallout 4‘s launch.
