Far Cry Primal Update on April 12 Adds Survivor Mode, Which Includes Permadeath

In a free Far Cry Primal update on April 12 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, Ubisoft will add Survivor mode, offering a more realistic experience.

Coming about as a result of community feedback, Survivor Mode includes changes to exploration, crafting, and game difficulty, with further options letting you enable features like permadeath, as Ubisoft explained:

If you felt the stakes weren’t high enough before, you can now turn on full permadeath, which means your game is over the first time you die (except in vision missions, which aren’t “real”). If that seems too abrupt, there’s also a second-chance option that gives you one backup life, which is then replenished at certain completion points.

Regardless of the difficulty level you’re playing on, Survivor and permadeath can be activated.

Furthermore, Survivor mode adds a stamina gauge that makes Takkar slower and weaker when it runs out, forcing him to sleep to replenish it; the minimap is turned off by default; the fog of war has been strengthened, lessening the amount of map you reveal through exploration; fast travel now consumes stamina and food; you’ll find humans and animals less often; Takkar can no longer “rain remote-control death on foes” with his owl; crafting ammo takes a few seconds; Hunter Vision duration has been increase; the animals you control are going to get less powerful; and animas who die are gone for good.

Since adding new Trophies and Achievements isn’t possible in a free update, Ubisoft has created four new Ubisoft Club challenges:

If you go for the ultimate challenge – activating Survivor mode, playing on expert difficulty and activating permadeath – you have the hardest and most insane challenge possible for the game, and there’s a special reward at the moment you complete the game. I won’t spoil it.

An in-depth Survivor mode livestream will take place on April 7 at 9:30am PT/12:30pm PT on Twitch.
