Ark: Survival of the Fittest Releases on July 19 for PS4

Released last month on PC, Ark: Survival of the Fittest is a standalone Multiplayer Online Survival Arena (MOSA) game coming to PlayStation 4 on July 19 in North America and Europe, Studio Wildcard announced today.

A spin-off of Ark: Survival Evolved, Survival of the Fittest was built from the ground up to be full of competitive action, and comes complete with cash prizes, invitational tournaments, lots of dinosaurs, and support for up to 72 players. Gameplay Designer Kayd Hendricks adds:

Spawning almost naked with a group of hostile opponents, it’s do-or-die in what we’re calling a Multiplayer Online Survival Arena (The big hats keep telling me to push the acronym until it becomes a thing), where you use your wits, your cunning, a little bit of brute force, a hatchet, an anvil, some arrows, a triceratops, a few guns, an explosive or two, a couple of stegosaurus, a sniper rifle, and — in dire cases — your own poop to be the last tribe standing when the final curtain is drawn.

Tame dinosaurs, craft armor, forge weapons, harvest resources, build bases, make friends, and slaughter some “Bobs” (ARK’s term for newcomers), in what is one of the deepest combat arenas to ever hit PlayStation. The breadth and depth of strategy, and potential avenues for victory, are enormous, and we’re working insanely hard to make sure that no matter what approach you take, you can come out on top if you’re clever.

The first ever MOSA on PlayStation, Survival of the Fittest on PS4 includes split-screen and local LAN play, with bots possibly being added so you can play offline. There’s also the Survivor League, which gives the best players in every game mode cash prizes each month.

Ark: Survival of the Fittest is free-to-play on PC, but Studio Wildcard didn’t say if it would be F2P on PS4 as well.

Update: Studio Wildcard said, “ARK: SotF will be available through PlayStation 4’s beta program and the development team will provide regular content updates to the game.”

As for Ark: Survival Evolved, a press release earlier this month said it “will launch in 2016 on Xbox One via the ID@Xbox program, PlayStation 4 with Project Morpheus support, and full release on Steam PC.”
