CD Projekt RED Doesn’t Want to Become a “10 Project Studio” Following The Witcher 3’s Success

The Witcher 3 - 1

The past year has seen CD Projekt RED reach new heights of success with the release and reception of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. However, the game’s success doesn’t mean that the developer wants to turn into a “10 project studio” just because there’s a business opportunity to do so. Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, CEO Marcin Iwinski appreciated the “Rockstar model” and said that CD Projekt RED has no plans to release a ton of games or annualise its current IPs.

The Witcher finished with 80 people, The Witcher 3 finished with 250, so Cyberpunk will probably be even more. Don’t think about scale in terms of us doing 20 projects; no, we’ll focus, we’ll focus on certain things… We don’t want to be a 10 project studio. The Rockstar model is nice.

For us, it’s never about money. Yes, we deliver results, but we always explain to our investors that we have a long-term perspective. They shouldn’t expect us to annualise, or suddenly start releasing games just because there’s a business opportunity. Fundamentally, The Witcher 3 has proven that… and right now we have a lot of credit, so we should use that and take the time to make Cyberpunk something really meaningful for the whole industry. It has to reach the next quality bar, and I’m not talking just for us, but for the market.

Iwinski also said that Rockstar is one of the studio’s role models and that the team wants to “keep on delivering.”
