In a recent interview with French site Challenges.fr, Philippe Cardon, Vice President of PlayStation Southern Europe, said both Gran Turismo Sport and The Last Guardian are still scheduled for a 2016 release on PlayStation 4.
After being asked if 2016 was a crucial year for PlayStation, Cardon replied (according to Google Translate):
For many 2015 was to be the peak in the cycle of 8th generation consoles, before entering a plateau, a more stable phase. But we believe that 2016 will be another year of growth. This will be a better year for the software and a very big year for the hardware. We expect to sell many consoles yet. And then there’s Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, the Sony event for this year. This is our biggest release of the year with Gran Turismo and the return of The Last Guardian. And of course, the PlayStation VR arrives.
A spring 2016 beta for Grand Turismo Sport was announced back in October, but nothing’s been said since then and reports have suggested that the game is delayed until 2017. It’s also worth noting that Cardon didn’t mention Horizon Zero Dawn, which is rumored to be delayed until 2017.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cardon discussed PlayStation VR, saying that 30 games will be available in October, with 50 games out by the end of 2016. He added, “And there will be new forms of content. There will be franchises like Gran Turismo that integrate VR experiences. There will also be [Ace Combat and Star Wars Battlefront]. And then there will be new franchises that VR will triple-A.”
He later said Gran Turismo is one of Sony’s top three ‘licenses’, along with Uncharted and God of War.
Cardon was also asked about the rumored PS4.5/PS4K model and whether PlayStation VR needs a more powerful console:
