World of Final Fantasy’s Story Is Over 100 Hours Long, Event Scenes Can Be Skipped

If you missed it earlier today, Square Enix announced that World of Final Fantasy is releasing on October 25 in North America and October 28 in Europe for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita. Priced at $59.99 on PS4 and $39.99 on PS Vita, anyone who pre-orders the day one edition will receive Sephiroth as a summon.

An RPG featuring “a new strategic take on the Active Time Battle system that features stacking characters and monsters,” World of Final Fantasy will include a story that’s over 100 hours long – and that’s not counting Mirage training or side elements. This news comes from Game Director Hiroki Chiba and Art Director Yasuhisa Izumisawa, who also told Famitsu in their latest issue that the game’s volume is the equivalent to a numbered Final Fantasy title and includes full sub-stories with franchise characters.

Elsewhere in the interview, they reveal that World of Final Fantasy is made to be relatively carefree. So, you can return to the town from a dungeon at any time (and go back easily), losing a battle will only see you getting sent back home (you don’t lose money or items), battles are easy early on before getting more difficult at the mid-way point (if you don’t consider attributes), and event scenes can be skipped or fast-forwarded.

As for Mirages – the beasts you can capture and raise – there are over 200 in the game, including cactuar, chocobo, and behemoth. Since they get lonely if you don’t use them, Square Enix is making changes so you can train them all.

World of Final Fantasy is currently in the polishing and balance adjustments phase of development, ahead of its worldwide release this October.
