E3 2016 – BioWare Aiming for a More “Natural Experience” With Mass Effect: Andromeda Romance

On the heels of yesterday’s gameplay showcase, developer BioWare has zeroed in on the romantic elements of Mass Effect: Andromeda and, specifically, how the studio is aiming to create a more “natural experience” than previous entries in the sci-fi series.

Word comes by way of IGN, where Creative Director Mac Walters outlined BioWare’s ambition to foster in-game relationships that offer “more freedom to players than ever before.”

“In the past we’ve been very, eh, I’d say somewhat formulaic in the way we presented them. We’re trying to look at more organic ways to have those relationships evolve. Aaryn [Flynn] talked on stage today about offering more freedom to players than ever before, and that includes areas like this as well — how you engage in those types of relationships and the gating around them throughout the timeline of the story.”

Conscious of how important those relationships are to players, Walters also noted that, “BioWare knows the expectations of the fans, so it’s something we haven’t forgotten and something we take very seriously.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda is due to launch for PS4, Xbox One and PC at some point in 2017.
