Hyper Light Drifter Coming to PS4 & Xbox One on July 26, PS Vita This Fall at the Earliest

After the PlayStation Store leaked it yesterday, developer Heart Machine has confirmed to Gematsu that Hyper Light Drifter will be available on July 26 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Hyper Light Drifter launched back in March 2016 for PC at $19.99 USD, and in the most recent Kickstarter update on June 23, Heart Machine explained that the age ratings in Europe for the PS4 and Xbox One versions took “plenty of time and money and hoops to jump through depending on the ratings body.” Thanking YoYo Games for their patience, they added, “It took several weeks longer to get things running smooth on these systems since GameMaker can be a bit funky and we are pushing this engine beyond it’s limitations in many ways.”

Although we know when the PS4 and Xbox One versions of Hyper Light Drifter are coming, the PlayStation Vita version is a bit trickier. As Heart Machine reveals, there’s a lot of optimization work still to be done, meaning it won’t arrive on Vita until this fall at the earliest:

A more difficult platform, due to it’s limited processing power and memory. Much optimization must be done in order for our game to run smoothly for the entirety of the experience. Luckily, we have external support taking charge on this port so we aren’t ripping our own hair out. We’re getting closer, but again, this is a Fall release at the earliest considering the amount of effort being poured in on this port.

Hearth Machine is also working on a Wii U version of Hyper Light Drifter.

Here’s the description for Hyper Light Drifter:

Echoes of a dark and violent past resonate throughout a savage land, steeped in treasure and blood. Hyper Light Drifter is an action adventure RPG in the vein of the best 8-bit and 16-bit classics, with modernized mechanics and designs on a much grander scale.

Drifters of this world are the collectors of forgotten knowledge, lost technologies and broken histories. Our Drifter is haunted by an insatiable illness, traveling further into the lands of Buried Time, steeped in blood and treasure hoping to discover a way to quiet the vicious disease. Echoes of a dark and violent past from the dead eras resonate throughout and he can’t help but listen.

There will likely be a launch trailer released soon, but in the meantime, we’ve included the original PS4 and PS Vita announcement trailer from March 2014 above.
