Sony Is Cancelling Digital Gran Turismo Sport Pre-Orders Because of the Delay

Following the delay of Gran Turismo Sport from November 2016 to an unspecified time in 2017, Sony began cancelling digital pre-orders, a system notification received by users reveals. According to the notification, which was posted by Team VVV, the pre-orders are being refunded because there isn’t currently a release date:

On 30th August 2016 we regrettably announced that the release of Gran Turismo Sport has been delayed until 2017. We do not have a new release date at this time. We have, therefore, decided to cancel your pre-order and refund your pre-order payment.

Once we have a new release date for Gran Turismo Sport we will offer a revised pre-order for it on the PlayStation Store at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for your custom and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused.

A separate message from Sony says “the revised release date is not known yet,” so the pre-order has been cancelled and refunded. It later adds, “A revised pre-order will be made available on PlayStation Store when we have the relevant product information.”

Cancelling pre-orders when a game is delayed appears to be standard practice for Sony, as something similar happened when No Man’s Sky went from June to August.
