Outlast 2 Won’t Support PlayStation VR According to Red Barrels

It’s safe to say now that horror games might be one of the most enticing factors in buying PlayStation VR. While horror games can be scary in itself, there’s quite nothing like being the person in the game (at least they’re point-of-view), interacting with whatever abomination can kill you in any game.

If you’ve played the first Outlast or tried the Outlast 2 demo that’s out now, then you might have thought that the game would be a perfect fit for PlayStation VR, and you wouldn’t be wrong. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like it’s happening — at least not at launch.

In an exclusive interview with PlayStation LifeStyle, Red Barrels President Philippe Morin took the time out to answer our questions regarding Outlast 2. And of course, we asked about the chances of an Outlast 2 PlayStation VR mode.

PlayStation LifeStyle: Will Outlast 2 be compatible with PlayStation VR when it’s released on PS4 next year? Any update on this at all?

Philippe Morin: No, it won’t be.  I think that if you want to make a really effective and enjoyable VR game, it has to be built from the ground up for it.  Since, we’re a small team of 20 people, we have to focus on one thing at a time.  We’ll see once we ship Outlast 2 if we jump on the VR bandwagon.

Well, there you have it, folks.Based on the “we’ll see” bit, there is the chance that it could be added post-launch , but come Outlast 2’s release (Q1 2017), don’t expect to play it on PSVR.

Stay tuned to our full interview where we ask about the PS4 Pro, the first game’s ending and more.
