Overwatch: Blizzard to Reveal LGBT Character “Soon”

Blizzard has reaffirmed its commitment to reveal an LGBT Overwatch character(s), according to the shooter’s Lead Writer Michael Chu.

Pulled from the Overwatch Q&A panel at Blizzcon 2016, Chu was in attendance at the annual event, assuring fans that the creative team “definitely haven’t forgotten” about the inclusion of LGBT characters on the game’s roster. Expect multiple heroes to be unveiled, too, with Chu going on to note that sexual orientation was something that was considered early on in development.

“We definitely haven’t forgotten about what we said. Like we said, it’s very important for us to have diversity and inclusiveness of all types and that includes LGBT characters. There are definitely LGBT heroes – that’s multiple heroes – it’s a decision that we make when we’re developing these characters early on.

“We do feel strongly that we want these stories about character’s relationships – not just romantic, but familial relationships and stuff like that – come out in the course of stories that we feel really do them justice. So, because of some of the stories we’ve done so far we haven’t had a chance to shine any light on that.

“But that said, I can say that we do have a story coming up soon – and that’s not ‘Blizzard(tm) soon,’ it’s actually soon – that will address this. And just to reiterate, it is absolutely something that’s important to us.”

Elsewhere, Blizzard has also posted an update for Overwatch‘s Public Test Realm, allowing PC players to test out Sombra, the latest addition to the character roster. Beyond that, users can expect the Arcade and a new Arena map called Ecopoint: Antarctica.

No word yet on when these features will be carried over to the full Overwatch experience, but we’ll update you if and when more information comes to light.
