Team Ninja’s Nioh is now available for pre-order on PlayStation 4 through retail stores and the PlayStation Store in North America (it will go up in Europe later this week), publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced today.
In addition to the $59.99 USD standard edition, there’s a $79.99 USD Digital Deluxe Edition available through the PS Store that includes the following content:

- The full game
- Weapon pack with five new weapons
- PS4 Avatar
- Season Pass
Although a standalone price wasn’t given, the Season Pass will likely be $20 on its own. According to the description, it includes three pieces of DLC “containing extra missions and story.” If the Season Pass contents are the same as in Japan, it will also include additional youkai, boss characters, and equipment.
By pre-ordering any edition of Nioh through the PlayStation Store, you’ll receive a Bloody Grave Nioh Dynamic Theme and the in-game Nioh armor, which is inspired by the ancient statues that stand guard at temples across Japan. Also, by pre-ordering any edition or buying any edition in the first two weeks after launch, you’ll receive the in-game Crimson Master Armor, which is based on legendary samurai Yukimura Sanada.
Because Nioh was created to be a very challenging game, Director Yosuke Hayashi says they put a lot of thought into the design of its difficulty. This includes listening to feedback from the recent alpha and beta tests, which resulted in a change to the battles:
For example, some of the feedback we got from our users was that they didn’t want the battles to involve too many enemies, because it would be too challenging. So we looked at more one-on-one encounters where greater skill was required.
After saying you shouldn’t fear death in Nioh, Hayashi added:
While Nioh is a challenging game, if you carefully pay attention to the movements of your enemies, you’ll be able to find chances for an opening.
And don’t be afraid to seek help from other players online from our great community, as there’s always someone out there who can offer guidance. Nioh is really about self-improvement. And in an era of games where there’s less lasting “death” in action titles, I want you to feel like you’ve genuinely accomplished something once you’ve completed it.
Nioh releases on February 7, 2017 in North America and February 8, 2017 in Europe for PS4.
