Overwatch Holiday Event Confirmed for Next Week

Blizzard have confirmed the rumors that their hit team-based first-person shooter Overwatch would have a holiday-themed event to celebrate the festive season. This shouldn’t come as much of a shock, as the Warcraft and Diablo developer has done a great job of adding to the game ever since it launched. Past events have included an Olympics-themed one for the Summer, and a Halloween-based one for Fall.

Blizzard sent out a tweet that simply told players that they were invited, and attached a GIF (which you can see embedded above) to it. When played the image shows a postcard opening up. The card reads “It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and we hope you’ll join us for some holiday cheer!” It then tells players that the event will begin on December 13 (that’s next Tuesday), and that it would take place in Overwatch (it’d be awfully weird if it didn’t). The letter concluded by asking fans to retweet the message in order to RSVP, and almost 60,000 fans have done just exactly that.

There’s no word yet on how long the event will last for, but the Halloween-themed event, called Halloween Terror, took place from October 11 through November 1. So, don’t be surprised if this festive one lasts until the new year. There’s also no concrete details on what exactly will happen during the event, and your guess is as good as ours in that regard. Halloween Terror added Overwatch‘s first PVE (player versus environment) brawl, and had players facing off against Dr. Junkenstein. Maybe this one will have players fighting or helping some version of Santa Claus?

Let us know in the comments what you think the event will be, and if you’re excited!
