CD Projekt RED Receives Hefty Fund to Research Seamless Multiplayer, City Creation and More
Back in September, CD Projekt RED submitted a proposal to the Polish government, seeking funding for research into technology “for creating a huge living city, playable in real time” alongside seamless multiplayer, technology for quality cinematics, and animation. Wccftech now reports that the Polish government has approved The Witcher 3 developer’s proposals, awarding them 30m zloty ($7 million).
Here’s what the studio will be putting the money towards:
Comprehensive technology for the creation of “live”, playable in real-time, cities of great scale based on the principles of artificial intelligence and automation and taking into account the development of innovative processes and tools supporting the creation of high-quality open world games.
Comprehensive technology enables the creation of unique gameplay for many players, taking into account the search of opponents, session management, replication facilities, and support of a variety of game modes along with a unique set of dedicated tools.
Comprehensive technology for providing a unique, film quality RPG with open world, also taking into account innovative solutions Process and unique set of dedicated tools.
Comprehensive technology enabling a significant increase in quality and production of complex face and body animations for open world RPG games, also taking into account the innovative process solutions and a unique set of dedicated tools.
CD Projekt RED wasn’t the only studio to receive funding either. Dying Light developer Techland received a grant for “developing a prototype for an action RPG set in an original fantasy world, played in FPP (first-person perspective) and using DX12 technology” and Lords of the Fallen developer CI Games received one for a project with the working title of LADAI. Other studios that received grants include Flying Wild Hog and Bloober Team (Layers of Fear).
