Rhianna Pratchett No Longer Working on the Tomb Raider Franchise

Rhianna Pratchett, lead writer on Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, is “off to pursue new adventures separate from the Tomb Raider franchise,” Crystal Dynamics announced today. Pratchett also worked on the Tomb Raider comics.

As part of the statement issued today, Crystal Dynamics thanked Pratchett for her work on the Tomb Raider games:

Crystal Dynamics and Rhianna Pratchett are announcing today that Rhianna is off to pursue new adventures separate from the Tomb Raider franchise. Rhianna was instrumental in helping us find Lara’s voice in the 2013 origin story, and through Rise of the Tomb Raider she shaped Lara into the evolving heroine we know today. The entire team thanks Rhianna for her dedication and tireless efforts on the games. Please join us in wishing Rhianna the absolute best in her next adventure.

On Twitter, Pratchett said, “So, I’m packing up my climbing axe plus a little venison jerky for the road, and bidding a fond farewell to Lara. Onwards to new adventures!”

Pratchett’s departure from the Tomb Raider franchise follows Game Director Brian Horton’s departure in December 2015. Ian Milham is now the new franchise director, but it remains to be seen who will write the next game, reportedly titled Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
