Warcraft Star Daniel Wu Joins Cast of Tomb Raider Reboot

Warcraft star Daniel Wu has signed on to be a key part of the upcoming film reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise. Wu, who played the sinister Orc Gul’dan in Warcraft, will be playing Lu Ren in Tomb Raider. Ren is a ship captain and friend of Lara Croft’s missing father. He teams up with Lara to help her find Richard Croft.

The upcoming film, which is set for a 2018 release, is based off Crystal Dynamics’ game of the same name. As such, the character of Lu Ren would line up with the game’s Conrad Roth, who serves as a mentor to Lara throughout the adventure. Other confirmed casting decisions include Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, and Walton Goggins as an unnamed villain. Goggins, who has previously been seen in Justified and Django Unchained, was just confirmed last week.

The 2018 Tomb Raider reboot is the first film in the highly successful film series since 2003. Angelina Jolie starred as Lara Croft in 2001’s Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and 2003’s Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. The first film was a major success at the box office, as it made over 270 million dollars worldwide, but the sequel pulled in a disappointing $156 million. Warner Bros. will look to repeat the success of the original movie.
