Yooka-Laylee Multiplayer Mode Detailed

Yooka-Laylee developer Playtonic Games announced today that their upcoming platformer will support multiplayer play. The game will feature an interactive arcade in-game called Rextro’s Arcade (which can be seen in the trailer above), where players will be able to play eight modes specifically designed around multiplayer. These can also be played solo, or with up to four friends locally.

Here’s how the studio described Rextro’s Arcade:

Compete in the Glaciators brawler arena to collect the most quills, race to the finish line in Kartos Karting, fight for the flag in Blag the Flag, blast away the enemies in shoot-em-up Gun-let Run and traverse both Jobstacle Course and Hurdle Hijinx, plus more! These are just some of the exciting games you can expect to find in Rextro’s Arcade.

On top of the arcade mini-games, Yooka-Laylee will also allow for a second player to play the game’s main campaign. A second player can control the Bee Team, who can then “grab quills and collect and store butterflies for when Yooka and Laylee are really in need of health or energy boost.” This cooperative experience seems like it would be a good fit for parents, who want to help out their children in-game.

The successfully crowdfunded platformer is set to release April 11 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac and Linux. It’ll be released both digitally and physically on consoles.

Let us know in the comments below if you’re excited that Yooka-Laylee will feature multiplayer. Will this be a fun distraction or does this seem like a thrown together extra?
