Analyst: Horizon Zero Dawn Could Sell More Than Four Million Copies This Year

With just one week to go until Horizon Zero Dawn launches for PlayStation 4, research firm SuperData is predicting that Sony’s newest title will sell upwards of six million copies this year, and it could reach eight million copies sold in its lifetime.

After highlighting the positive reviews Horizon Zero Dawn is already seeing, SuperData CEO Joost van Dreunen said, “Based on our initial observations we believe that Horizon Zero Dawn can sell around 4-6 million units by end of 2017, given its early in the year release. Lifetime sales will likely be around 6-8 million, which puts it in the same category as Uncharted 4 and Metal Gear Solid V.”

At the beginning of this year, Sony revealed that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 8.7 million copies in 2016.

SuperData also says lifetime PS4 sales to date are sitting at 54 million (shipments are over 57 million), compared to 26 million for the Xbox One (which is the same number they mentioned in January). van Dreunen adds, “The release of the game as a platform exclusive suggests that this gap will only widen as consumers flock to play Horizon Zero Dawn.”

Do you think Horizon will move six million copies this year?
