Efi Oladele Isn’t Overwatch’s Next Hero

Despite the recent tease by Blizzard, 11-year-old Efi Oladele won’t be the first-person shooter’s next hero. Blizzard’s Jeff Kaplan told Polygon that while the scientific prodigy won’t be playable, she’s still an important character. Oladele will play a part in the upcoming playable character’s backstory, although it’s still unknown who that character might be.

Current speculation has been centered around a four-legged robot that has appeared in several Overwatch trailers in the past. A 4chan post, which successfully leaked the news about the Lunar New Year event, lends credence to this theory as the post says the next character would be “a female omnic quadruped codenamed ‘Anchora.'”

As far as official information goes, fans only have the recently published Q&A to go off of. Here’s a refresher on who Efi Oladele is, and how she might impact the story:

Already one of the world’s foremost centers of scientific discovery and exploration, Numbani has a brilliant new mind to add to its ranks: Efi Oladele. In the last year, she’s built a resume of impressive achievements in robotics and artificial intelligence, but perhaps most remarkably is that she’s done all of this by the age of eleven. Last month, she became the most recent recipient of the Adawe Foundation’s prestigious “genius grant,” in recognition of her many accomplishments. She is undoubtedly someone whose career will be watched with great interest.

Feel free to speculate in the comments below on who you think the next Overwatch character will be!
