Some Mass Effect Andromeda Planets Are Bigger Than Dragon Age Inquisition

The embargo on Mass Effect Andromeda is up, which means that dozens of previews and interviews went up today (including one on this very site). That means there is a ton of new details popping up about BioWare’s upcoming action role-playing game, and one of the most interesting tidbits we’ve seen was in regard to just how big the latest Mass Effect is. Let’s just say that the developer is definitely putting the mass in Mass Effect.

Here’s what BioWare producer Fabrice Condominas had to say about the game’s size and depth when talking to Gamereactor UK:

Oh, it’s bigger than any of the three [games in the original trilogy]. In terms of the footprint, for example, it’s gigantic. One planet can be the size of Dragon Age: Inquisition as a whole. Not all of them, but some of them. But it gives you an idea of scale.

But also in terms of, for example, the progression system, it’s probably the deepest we ever made. So even in terms of mechanically, the crafting system is probably the one we pushed further than any in the three. So it’s definitely bigger.

There are a lot of other interesting details in the full Mass Effect Andromeda interview over at Gamereactor UK, so definitely check it out.

If you haven’t checked out our preview of the game yet, you can read it here. Here’s what our own Louis Edwards had to say about exploring planets:

Upon visiting a planet, the game had an open world feel to it (even if we know it isn’t really that kind of game), with you being able to travel around either on foot or by using your Nomad. The Nomad vaguely reminded me of the huge Batmobile from Batman Begins (or the Mako from the first Mass Effect), but without the rocket on the back and the ability to jump, and with six wheels instead of four. The ATV had two gears: one for high speed, and one that seemed to kick in the all-wheel drive, which was great for climbing steep grades. Side missions popped up as you traversed around in this awesome machine, and we found ourselves doing more side-work than main work.

Mass Effect Andromeda releases March 21 in North America, and two days later in Europe.
