Nomura: Battles in Final Fantasy VII Remake Are Action-Based, Not Command-Based

To help clear up any misinterpretations with the recently released Final Fantasy VII Remake screenshot where Cloud is taking cover (above), director Tetsuya Nomura told Famitsu this week that battles are action-based, and taking cover isn’t required:

Battles are not command-based, they’re action-based. Regarding cover actions, there are places where they can be done on the map, but they are not required. Because it’s seamless, I showed that there can be actions in response to various scenes.

Nomura adds that the Guard Scorpion fight “has become a significantly flashy battle,” due to map destruction and new attacks not present in the original. “I think that you can see that there are a number of missiles coming down,” he continued.
