BioWare Offers up a Mass Effect Andromeda Launch Message, Doctor’s Note

Mass Effect Andromeda is releasing this week in North America and Europe for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, and developer BioWare offered up this message today, thanking fans for sharing the five-year journey with them:

Three studios, five years, and hundreds of people made Mass Effect Andromeda a reality, and we can’t wait for you to explore this new galaxy. From all of us at BioWare, thank you for sharing the journey with us. We hope you enjoy this next chapter in the Mass Effect universe.

Over on the Mass Effect website, BioWare listed 10 reasons why you should be excited for Andromeda:

  1. Characters – As the Pathfinder, you won’t have to shoulder the responsibility of humanity’s future by yourself. To explore the galaxy and find a home, you’ll build a team with members of various species and backgrounds. New friendships, rivalries, and more await.
  2. Exploration – Your task is to determine the right planet for humanity to thrive on, and that takes exploration. One of the best tools for discovering a planet’s environment is The Nomad, a top-of-the-line scout rover. It’s equipped with twin hydrogen-oxygen fuel cells that power an element zero core and an interchangeable four- or six-wheel drive, among other planet-traversing features. Be sure to take advantage of its many customization options to make it your own!
  3. Ship – A Pathfinder needs a spaceship, and you’ll have the best the Andromeda Initiative has to offer. The Tempest is light, stealthy, and the fastest ship in her class. Capable of doing 13 light years per day, the Tempest will be a second home for you and your crew.
  4. Space – Building a home is more than setting a foundation. To sustain a working colony, resources are needed, and that’s where the Pathfinder teams come in. Explore the Heleus Cluster using the Galaxy Map, and send probes from the Tempest to locate valuable material that can help the Andromeda Initiative secure its place.
  5. Planets – Four Arks will launch in 2185, arriving in the Heleus Cluster of the Andromeda Galaxy 600 years later. Initial scans from the Milky Way reveal 7 promising habitats in the cluster, rich with life-sustaining resources, representing our best chance of finding a new home.
  6. Combat – You’re the Pathfinder, the tip of the spear of humanity’s search for a home in a new galaxy. You’ll need to be ready for any danger. You’ll receive training in tech, biotics, and a multitude of weapons, and create combat profiles to quickly adapt to different situations and environments!
  7. WeaponsMass Effect Andromeda allows you to utilize both new and familiar weapons with an assortment of play styles. Whether you prefer Milky Way, Heleus, or Remnant weapons, you can choose your favorite from a wide range of equipment.
  8. Crafting – Upgrade your weapons and gear or create entirely new ones with the unique crafting system – and customize them with your own names! Exploring the Heleus Cluster in the Andromeda Galaxy, you’ll come across schematics and resources to help upgrade your Pathfinder’s equipment, ensuring you’re always be ready for a fight.
  9. Multiplayer – Play with friends and repel waves of enemies. Customize your character’s equipment and expand your arsenal with Multiplayer packs, purchasable with in-game credits or Andromeda Points in the in-game store.

The 10th reason is the Play First Trial for EA Access and Origin Access members on Xbox One and PC.

On Twitter, Lead Designer Ian Frazier discussed New Game+ in Andromeda. “We’ve got NG+. Most of your progression carries directly over, but story and nexus level are a fresh start with each NG+,” he said. Asked if you can customize your created character in New Game+, Frazier said, “Yes.”

If you’re planning on taking some time off work or school to play Andromeda, BioWare has you covered:

Mass Effect Andromeda releases on March 21 in North America and on March 23 in Europe. You can read our review over here, and learn more about the day one patch over here. According to Frazier, “The team’s working very hard to address issues. More patches to come!” They’re also looking at ways to improve character creation in a future patch.
