Star Wars Battlefront II Trailer Leaked, Reveals Story Details, Eras & Pre-Order Bonuses

The last we heard of the upcoming EA-published sequel to DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront series was in March when we were told that the official worldwide reveal will be happening on Saturday, April 15, at the Star Wars Celebration event.

However, fans will be excited to hear that they will be able to see the game a tiny bit sooner due to EA’s Twitter account accidentally leaking the short 30-second ad above, which includes almost exclusively in-engine footage. Unfortunately, the video has since been removed but courtesy of YouTube user Leon Gaspar and Vimeo aficionado TheSpicenberg (via NeoGAF), the ad has been re-uploaded for your viewing pleasure.

As can be gleaned from the trailer, Star Wars Battlefront II will take the fight to all three trilogies of the Star Wars films. The trailer made it a point to squeeze in beloved characters from all eras of the saga, such as Yoda, Darth Maul, Rey, and of course a Tauntaun (seen graciously head-butting a snowtrooper).

The trailer also hints at what the story mode will entail. The main character seems to be a female Imperial soldier, seeing the second Death Star blow up first-hand, deployed on the Battle of Endor. While it’s still possible that the game will take a multi-narrative approach similar to what was incorporated in Battlefield 1, we can infer that the female protagonist might be an exclusive cast member. You can see that she graces the center of the promotional image for the game below and seems to be the ‘The Untold Soldier,” as the trailer describes.

Lastly, the pre-order bonus for Star Wars Battlefront II looks to be directly tied the upcoming film, Star Wars: The Last Jedi. This parallels the original Star Wars Battlefront, which featured the opportunity to fight on The Force Awakens planet, Jakku.

Star Wars Battlefront II is currently slated for a 2017 release.
