Danganronpa Developer Announces New IP for PS4, PS Vita

Spike Chunsoft, the developer of the Danganronpa series, has just announced an all-new RPG called Zanki Zero for the PS4 and PS Vita through the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu.

The game is currently being developed by most of the studio’s Danganronpa team, including producer Yoshinori Terasawa and director Takayuki Sugawara who will supervise the development. According to an interview with the two, the project was apparently originally thought of way back in 2006 and is a “survival RPG, set in a fictional post-apocalyptic world.

Here’s an overview of the game:

God created the world in seven days. It only took one day for humans to destroy the world. Until yesterday, every day life was sinking into the sea. We do not yet known the broken world and the reasons left behind there. An earth where ruins drift about. Buildings, houses, light posts. Cars, traffic lights, asphalt—. Modern civilization was destroyed, and became ruins drifting in the sea. New ruins drift one after the other before the protagonist, who lives on one of those ruin islands.

The interview also revealed that the game will feature eight main characters and each one can be considered the protagonist, whether that means the player can choose which character they’d like to play as is unclear. The game will also feature “strong action elements” and there will be no transition or loading screen between exploration and combat.

Spike Chunsoft did not reveal when Zanki Zero would be released but they did say that the game is currently 10 percent complete, which would mean that it’s going to take a while before we’ll be able to play Spike Chunsoft’s latest IP.
