Blizzard Reveals Overwatch Loot Box Probability in China

Blizzard has publicly revealed the probability at which Overwatch players can receive certain types of rewards from the game’s loot boxes.

The move is in compliance with new regulations in China which require online games like Overwatch, that charge real money for things like loot boxes, to disclose the probabilities of its random loot systems.

According to the Blizzard’s official announcement, every loot box in Overwatch always contains at least one Rare (blue) item. They also reveal that, on average, players will receive an Epic (purple) item every 5.5 loot boxes and a Legendary (orange) item every 13.5 loot boxes.

While Blizzard didn’t state whether the same probability is consistent across all regions, it wouldn’t be surprising if they were. Regardless, the release of this information is a big deal for a company like Blizzard who usually prefers to keep many of its data or information under wraps.
