Quantum Break Dev Says Going Multi-Platform Is a “Logical Step” for the Studio, Talks New IP

Quantum Break developer Remedy had been working with Microsoft for a decade when it announced that the studio was going multi-platform and had a new IP, tentatively titled P7, in development. While the developer isn’t closing the door on platform exclusives, creative director Sam Lake told Eurogamer in an extensive new interview that going multi-platform was the “logical step” for Remedy as it wants to reach a wider audience.

We worked with Microsoft Studios for 10 years, for two big games. It was a logical, good partnership. For them, the platform is the important thing, but we are an indie game maker and at the end of the day, coming out of that, we just want our games to be experienced by as many people as possible, and going multi-platform is the logical step for us.

As previously mentioned, Remedy isn’t ruling out the possibility of doing platform exclusives in the future. However, Lake says that there are a lot of factors to consider when making such a decision and that exclusives are a business deal that “needs to make sense.”

Remedy’s upcoming P7 is a third-person cinematic action game coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Lake says that the developer wants to retain its focus on storytelling and strong characters but is also looking for ways to engage players and offer them lengthier experiences and replay value.

We want to retain the strong storytelling and strong characters and strong world-building that we have done in the past, but also we want to find ways for the players to be able to spend more time with an experience – that it’s not just played once through and then you are done in a weekend. Exploring ways to expand that side of the thing without losing what we feel that we do really well.

P7 is currently in pre-production.
