Borderlands Writer and Gearbox’s Chief Creative Departs Studio Due to Health Issues

Gearbox Software’s Chief Creative Champion Mikey Neumann, who is best known for his work on Borderlands and Brothers in Arms, has announced his departure from the studio due to health issues.

Neumann suffered a stroke in 2011 and although he successfully recovered and returned to work, he’s finding it difficult to continue in his role beyond this point. Yesterday, he announced on Twitter that he’ll now be working full-time on his YouTube show, Movies With Mikey.

In follow-up tweets, Neumann said:

Everything is 1,000,000% amicable with Gearbox. I physically just can’t do the work anymore. I am, and will always be, part of that family. They [Gearbox] have been absolutely incredible. I was on leave when I and I alone made the decision.

Neumann served Gearbox Software for 16 years and played an important role in setting up the Borderlands franchise. He was also the voice of Scooter.

We wish him the best of luck and health.
