Digital Sales Dominate Activision Blizzard’s Better-Than-Expected Q2 Results

Activision Blizzard has released its earnings for the quarter ended June 30, 2017, reporting “better-than-expected” results as revenues rose to $1.63 billion – an increase of 4 percent year-on-year.

Of the aforementioned figure, $1.31 billion came from digital channels that grew 15 percent year-on-year.

Blizzard boasted the biggest quarterly online player community in its history with 46 million month active users across its titles. The report noted that Overwatch‘s online community continued to grow even a year after launch following two successful seasonal events that ran during this period.

Although Activision saw 47 million monthly active users, this is “slightly” down year-on-year. The launch of Zombies Chronicles and Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy contributed significantly to this number.

Looking forward, the company will release Bungie’s Destiny 2 this September, and has noted that the sequel’s beta and pre-orders both surpassed the original’s beta and pre-order numbers. Additionally, the release of Call of Duty WWII this November is expected to boost earnings.
