“Strong” NieR: Automata Download Sales Contributed to Square Enix’s Operating Income Last Quarter

Square Enix has published its financial report for the three-month period ended June 30, 2017, revealing an overall increase in net sales and operating income.

In its most recent quarter, the company’s net sales totaled ¥57,000 million, an increase of 11.3 percent from the same period last year. Operating income amounted to ¥12,874 million, which is an increase of 43.9% year-on-year.

Square Enix’s Digital Entertainment division, which includes video games, saw a year-on-year increase of 17.7 percent in net sales, and an increase of 44.9 percent in operating income from the same period last year. This positive result is thanks in part to “strong download sales” of critically-acclaimed NieR: Automata, and the release of Final Fantasy XIV‘s latest expansion. Stormblood, which released in June, also helped to boost the number of the MMO’s monthly subscribers.

“The Square Enix group is continuing determined efforts to strengthen the competitiveness and profitability of its business segments,” reads the report.
