madden 18 update 1.05

Madden NFL 18 Will Have 4K Support at Launch

There has been some confusion about whether Madden NFL 18 would have 4K and HDR support at launch. Today, Game Informer has received a statement from EA clarifying the issue a bit. Madden NFL 18 will be available at 4K and 1080p at launch without an update, but the verdict is still out on HDR support.

Here is EA’s complete statement:

“Madden NFL 18 supports PS4 Pro at launch in both 4K and 1080p, with no update needed. If a gamer chooses to run Madden NFL 18 in 4K, they will see improved resolution, if they choose to run the game in 1080p, they will see improved framerate in certain areas of the presentation. Core gameplay will render at 60fps regardless. We have no announcements to make regarding HDR support at this time.”

The original concerns over Madden NFL 18’s 4K and HDR support came from reports that review builds of the game weren’t supporting the options, and many wondered if the support would require a day one (or later) patch.

Our Madden NFL 18 review will be live at 12:01 AM EDT, but in the meantime take a look our E3 preview to get a taste of what to expect from this entry to the Madden series:

EA walked us through the very start of the game. The campaign, titled “The Longshot,” is going for a complete cinematic experience. In fact, the first several minutes (perhaps even as long as 10 minutes) of the game hardly has you playing much of anything. Developer EA Tiburon takes their time to set the stage. You play as Devin Wade, who is reminiscing about various key moments in his life, played through flashbacks.

Look forward to our upcoming interview with Longshot Mode director Mike Young.

Madden NFL 18 will release August 25 on the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
